The verge world has wrapped itself up inside an abalone. ‘Para Culture’ is almost gone. Every single family is now separated. The concept of ‘parar chhele’ or ‘the guy next door’ is almost extinct. There was a time, 20-30 years back, when few young guys from the locality were always there to help and support elders. ‘Parar kaku/jyethu’s’ were mostly dependent on them. ‘‘Eiii, edike ekbar shune ja to’’— was more than enough to gather 5-10 people. There was unity and coherence in every para and among its people. The person staying away from home, was quite relaxed to know that there are someone to support his/her older family members in crisis.
But those days are almost over.
Young people leaving their family behind are anxious about their parents at home. They are well connected with their parents through phone or social media. But surely they do understand that there are times, when physical presence is also very important. Like a faithful hand and anchored soul.
Here the concept of ‘SATHE ACHI ’ emerges.
